These terms are an agreement between you and [legal entity name, to be completed] (“BeBetter”, “we”) about your use of the BeBetter app and getbebetter.app. By creating an account you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use BeBetter.
1. What BeBetter is
BeBetter is a social app for reducing distracting screen time. With your permission it measures how long you spend in apps you have marked as distracting or productive, turns that into points using a published scoring policy, and ranks you against the members of your private group each week. It is a motivational game, not a medical, psychological or productivity service, and it does not give professional advice.
2. Your account
- You must be at least 16 years old [minimum age to be confirmed] to use BeBetter.
- Give accurate account information and keep access to your email secure. You are responsible for activity on your account.
- One person, one account. Accounts are personal and can’t be transferred.
3. Data and permissions
BeBetter needs Screen Time permission to work. Apple Health and Strava connections are optional. How we handle this data is described in our privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.
4. Scores and competitions
- Scores are calculated automatically from the data your device reports. Measurements can be delayed, incomplete or affected by iOS limitations. Missing data is shown as missing, not as zero usage.
- We may adjust the scoring policy, categories and caps to keep competition fair. Changes apply to everyone in a group equally and are shown in the app.
- Weekly results and badges are for fun. Unless we explicitly announce otherwise, there are no cash prizes, and points have no monetary value.
- We may correct or void scores that result from bugs, abuse or attempts to cheat.
5. Throws and acceptable use
Throwing cosmetic objects at friends is meant to be playful. Throws don’t affect scores, are rate-limited, and can be muted. When using BeBetter you agree not to:
- harass, bully or threaten other people, or use display names, avatars or group names that are hateful, sexual or impersonate someone;
- manipulate measurements, automate usage, reverse engineer the app or interfere with its security;
- access other people’s accounts or data;
- use BeBetter for anything unlawful.
You can report a problem or a person by emailing hello@getbebetter.app. We may remove content, remove someone from a group, or suspend accounts that break these rules.
6. Groups
Groups are private and joined by invitation. Anyone with a valid invite link or code can ask to join, so share them only with people you want in your group. Group creators may be able to remove members.
7. Our service
BeBetter is currently in early development. We will try to keep it running smoothly, but we provide it “as is” and can’t promise it will always be available, accurate or free of errors. We may change, pause or stop features. If we shut BeBetter down we will give reasonable notice where we can.
The core app is free. If we introduce paid features in the future, we will show the price and terms clearly before you pay, and payments will be handled through the App Store.
8. Intellectual property
The app, website, design, tomatoes and other content are owned by BeBetter or its licensors. We give you a personal, non-transferable licence to use the app for its intended purpose. You keep ownership of the display name and avatar you upload and give us permission to show them to members of your group.
9. Liability
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Otherwise, to the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (which may be zero). If you are a consumer, you keep all rights you have under mandatory consumer law.
10. Ending your use
You can stop using BeBetter and delete your account at any time from the app. We may suspend or close accounts that seriously or repeatedly break these terms, and will explain why unless the law or safety prevents it.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as BeBetter develops. For material changes we will notify you in the app before they take effect. If you keep using BeBetter after that, the new terms apply.
12. Governing law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of [jurisdiction, to be confirmed], without depriving consumers of the protection of mandatory laws where they live. Questions? Email hello@getbebetter.app.
